On September 8, 2024 "God’s Work, Our Hands Day." one of the activities we
undertook after worship was to write to write postcards to Congress about helping to end hunger in the world. We wrote 57 postcards to our members of Congress to support hunger programs that were highlighted by Bread For The World. (Thanks to everyone who was a scrivener that day!)
In October, we are going to raise awareness of another program that is making
strides to end hunger. This program is Heifer International, our October Ministry partner
for the All Saints Lutheran Second Mile Giving Program.
This goes back to 1944, when founder Dan West made a note to himself when
doing some work with refugee children by ladling out milk, that he felt the children didn’t need a cup of milk, instead they needed a cow. West founded “Heifers for Relief”, and 17 heifers were sent to Puerto Rico.
Heifer International evolved and blossomed. Through sending animals,
agricultural and value-based training, Heifer has worked with more than 46 million
people around the world to end hunger and poverty. They currently have programs in 19 countries, and continue to support farmers and food producers to strengthen local
economies and build secure livelihoods.
Please join with the All Saints Lutheran family in supporting this wonderful and
important outreach. Heifer International is an organization that is working to end hunger and poverty, and raise HOPE.
