Hunger in the world is on a lot of people’s minds and is a big focus of our Second Mile Giving ministry partner for the month of November: ELCA World Hunger.
Current estimates of the hungry in the world, according to ELCA World Hunger, is 733 million people. That’s about 9% of the world’s population! ELCA World Hunger believes that God richly provides for daily bread; the earth can produce enough food for everyone. Yet many still go hungry.
By providing immediate relief to those who are hungry, we meet basic needs and recognize the universal human right to food. But that doesn’t end the problem; ending hunger is about more than food. ELCA World Hunger connects people with the resources they need to produce food and gain access to clean water, education, healthcare and sources of long-term income, and by doing so, sustainable change can be accomplished.
ELCA World Hunger is continuing to support projects in 34 USA states and territories, and 63 countries.
From the Social Ministry team, thank you members and friends of All Saints Lutheran for supporting the Second Mile Giving program; please continue support for our ministry partner in November, ELCA World Hunger.
