During February, our congregation is lifting and celebrating Lutheran Campus
Ministry; as a ministry partner in the congregation’s Second Mile Giving
Program.
Lutheran Campus Ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America
(ELCA) is a ministry for students, faculty, staff and others on campus. Drawing on the
scriptures and the Lutheran confessions, Lutheran Campus Ministry (LCM) bears
witness to God’s grace within higher education. Sensitive to the pastoral
needs of those on campus and engaged in the intellectual discourse of the university,
LCM communicates the gospel in unique ways.
The first Lutheran Campus Ministry site was established in 1907 at University
of Wisconsin, Madison. In the 119 years since, LCM has grown into a presence of more
than 180 state and private colleges and universities, with cooperating congregations in
campus ministries at an additional 400 campuses nationwide.
In our own Sierra Pacific Synod, there are five LCM sites: Stanford University,
University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Davis; California State
University, Monterey Bay; and California State University, Fresno. Very recently Rev. Sam
Ladue (previously at Faith Lutheran Church, Santa Rosa) has become the campus
minister at Stanford University for LCM, and Rev. Kwame Pitts (previously a mission
developer in the Upstate New York Synod) has become the campus minister at University of California, Berkeley for LCM.
This is a vital and vibrant ministry benefitting our students in universities in our synod and throughout the ELCA. Please join us at All Saints Lutheran in supporting this important ministry through prayers, and through financial contributions as you are able.
