The year is moving along, and we get to celebrate another ministry partner
in our congregation’s Second Mile Giving program. The ministry partner for March
is Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS), located in Berkeley.
Why do we have seminaries? In a word, the seminaries are here to
help prepare our future leaders in our church: Our pastors. In this thought,
PLTS has as its mission statement, to “develop leaders for the church by:
keeping faith in Christ, challenging the mind, expanding the heart, and energizing
for mission."
PLTS is one of seven seminaries in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA), and it is the only seminary in the western half of the USA
- to meet the needs of Lutheran congregations in the west.
In its website, the Seminary says of itself that it is a small but mighty
seminary, and is well positioned for agility and change. PLTS develops new
courses and programs to help leaders respond with creativity and
vision. At the same time, the seminary remains faithful to Lutheran
traditions and visions.
Our congregation will have an opportunity to learn more about the
seminary firsthand. On March 22, a student from PLTS will be a guest preacher
at All Saints Lutheran, and will stay after worship for an informal question & answer session. Please join us as we learn about and support our seminary.
