“Ending Homelessness. For Good”. That’s the tagline on the homepage of
Lutheran Social Services of Northern California (LSS). LSS is the ministry partner for
December in the Second Mile Giving Program of ASLC.That’s a daunting task. That is the assignment that our December ministrypartner has chosen to do, here in Northern California. Let’s take a moment to find outhow this all came to be.
Back in the 1880s, some Lutheran folks got together to celebrate the 400 th
birthday of Martin Luther, and in the process they raised some money to care for
orphans and widows. They started working together, and over several decades
expanded this work. In 1968, a merger formed of several social service programs and
agencies to advocate for and serve the needy. Lutheran Social Services of Northern
California was born!
LSS began to center attention on homelessness, and the goal of LSS is to
end the homelessness crisis in Northern California. The organization does this by providing supportive housing and essential services to the unhoused – to guide families, seniors, adults withdisabilities and others from challenging situations to their highest level of stability and success. As a result of these efforts, nearly 4,000 individuals (in seven Northern California counties) of all ages are in safe, stable housing and receive care and support they need.
We ask friends and members of All Saints to join in supporting this very
important organization and ministry partner in prayer, and as you are able, with financial contributions.
