LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
Our ministry partner for December in the ASLC Second Mile Giving program is
Lutheran Social Services of Northern California. In a word, the mission of LSS is to end
homelessness. The motto of LSS is “Ending Homelessness. For Good”.
The organization got its roots back in the 1880s, when some Lutherans got
together to provide care for orphans and widows. Several programs started; in 1968 a
merger formed, and Lutheran Social Services of Northern California was born.
In 1992, LSS focused on supportive housing, helping individuals and families of
all ages to rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness. Using stable housing as
the blueprint, LSS offered and continues to offer compassionate, nonjudgmental
guidance to connect persons to support they needed. LSS focuses on quality of service
and each person’s relevant needs. This focus allows individuals and families time to
stabilize their lives and to regain their confidence and dignity.
Thanks to LSS, today nearly 4000 individuals of all ages are in safe, stable
housing, and are receiving care support they need. LSS does this through 32 supportive
housing programs that it manages in seven counties: Contra Costa, Sacramento, San
Francisco, San Joaquin, Solano, Yolo and Shasta.
We ask friends and members of All Saints to join in supporting this very important
organization and ministry partner in prayer, and as you are able, with financial
contributions.
