Across the USA there are 112 camp and retreat ministry sites that are a part of

the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The sites are an opportunity to

provide building faith, worship, learning to spread our faith, service to others, and

fellowship/fun.

Together, these camps and ministries sites form the Lutheran Outdoor

Ministries (LOM) of the ELCA. The organization encourages spiritual growth for everyone

through intentional Christian community in outdoor settings; in their words: “LOM has a

place for everyone around the campfire!”

Lutheran Outdoor Ministries has three sites in California, two in Southern

California and one in Northern California. The Northern California site is Mt. Cross

Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, located in Ben Lomond (near Santa Cruz), and is the

ministry partner in our congregation’s Second Mile Giving program for May.

Mt. Cross was founded in 1948, and has been providing outdoors ministry for

nearly 80 years. Currently, the camp features a number of summer programs for youth,

and also includes year-round programs for families. The executive director is Andrew

Templeman.
