The Lutheran Office of Public Policy (LOPP) serves the State of California and three Luthern synods in the state, including our Sierra Pacific Synod. It is part of the national ELCA Lutheran Office of Public Policy program with offices in several states. The California LOPP office is in Sacramento.
Our California LOPP office engages in the far-ranging outreach of advocacy issues, including immigration, childhood poverty, food and farming, criminal justice, water justice, and caring for God's creation. Their work is guided by the Social Statements of the ELCA and by its Policy Council. Our pastor Dave Miller is a member of the California Policy Council of LOPP.
The Nevada agency, LEAN (Lutheran Engagement in Advocacy Nevada), is similar to the LOPP California office. A notable difference is the LEAN is not part o a national organization; it serves the State of Nevada and the two Lutheran synods in that state.
