"I Am the Bread of Life"

Every three years these passages from John’s Gospel are part of the readings for a 5 week period.Bread is arranged on the altar as a visual for this focus, and breads of various kinds, from various nationalities are served at Communion, reminding us that Jesus is the Bread of Life for all.
The last Sunday in July, Naan, a bread of India, was used for communion.

August 4th, it was Lavash, an Armenian flat bread.

August 11th, we used a traditional bread of Germany, Schwartzwälden.

August 18th, we used Ciabatta, a rustic Italian bread.

August 25th, the meal will include the bread bread of Hawaii: America and the native Polynesians of the islands.

All these breads have helped us remember our siblings across the continents and the universality of God’s meal.
