Martin Luther was a Roman Catholic priest who lived in Germany in the 15th century. He struggled with many of the doctrines in his church and finally wrote a set of 95 statements that he believed were necessary to “reform” the church. Hence the “Reformation.

Luther taught, and we believe, that we are saved (restored to perfect relationship with God) by grace alone, not by anything we do. Our salvation is gained simply by believing that Jesus died and rose for us.

In America, Lutherans follow several different traditions. All Saints Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which was formed in 1988 from three other Lutheran organizations. Today the ELCA contains more than 10,000 congregations in 65 “synods” or area councils across the United States.
